CBBC GREEN BALLOON CLUB VISIT THE NO TAKE ZONE
In the early summer children’s BBC visited Arran for a week of filming children interacting with the islands wildlife. COAST with the help of Tom Tracy of Arran power & Sail organised a day out in Lamlash Bay on two RIBs for the filming crew and children. A selection of sea creatures were collected from the depths of St Molias bay just around the corner from the NTZ to allow the children to be filmed interacting with the animals and talking about how the no take zone was a good thing for the future. Sea Squirts, Lobster, Starfish & Scallops were all closely examined, and there was much hilarity when the sea squirts squirted water in their faces when touched.
Over a few weeks in the autumn all the Arran filming of the Green Balloon club was shown on BBC 2. Lots of free publicity for both island tourism and Scotland’s first no take zone.
